The PIE Board recognizes that many, many parents already volunteer their time in the classroom,
chaperone field trips or donate dozens of hours on the Taste of Basalt fundraising committee, but if
you have not yet contributed your time, energy or, frankly, your money to BES, PIE has organized
several ways to do just that – no matter if you are a working or stay-at-home parent, single or
married parent, Spanish- or English-speaking parent:

Ongoing Projects
•        Volunteer at special school events, like annual Field Day. PE Teacher Carol King will send
home notices in the spring.
•        Volunteer your time in the classroom. Contact your Room Rep(s) for details; if you don’t know
who your Room Rep is, contact Stacey Craft, smcraft@att.net, 927-4627.
•        Bring in food for Teacher Appreciation Week. More details will be forthcoming for the spring
event.
•        Buy items off of your teacher’s Wish List. These are small items like tissues, pencils,
Sharpies, paper…. all reasonably priced things you can throw in your cart the next time you’re at Wal-
Mart. Contact your Room Rep for your teacher’s Wish List items.
•        Offer to collect and count Box Tops in February and May. Contact Beth Barnes at 927-9484 or
bethabarnes@hotmail.com. Please make a habit of cutting Box Tops out from grocery containers at
home and sending them to school with your child.
•        Chaperone classroom field trips. Your teacher will send home notices or your Room Rep will
contact you.
•        Come to monthly PIE meetings and offer to man the Art Work Table, where Art Teacher Lois
Alvarez will have an easy “prep project” for us to cut out, glue, or sew for her students’ classroom
projects. Or call Lois and volunteer your time during the school day, helping with such prep projects:
384-5861.
•        Serve on the Basalt Healthy School Lunch Team, which meets the first Thursday of the month
at 9:30 a.m. Contact Rebecca Leibinger, rleibinger@comcast.net, 948-7249.

Please make a habit of reading the monthly school newsletter where volunteer opportunities will be
published. Teachers and room reps will also send home written notices (check your children’s
Monday/Friday folders and their backpacks nightly). If you are not receiving emails from PIE about
volunteer opportunities and other important school events, issues and meetings, and you would like
to receive information by email, please email Kara Williams, kara@karaswilliams.com.

A huge thank you to the Karl, Henrietta & Isadora Oliver family for donating an used refrigerator to
replace the broken one in the teachers’ lounge. More big thanks to everyone who manned the Art
Work Table in December; to all parents serving as Room Reps; and to parents who volunteered to
“Adopt a Staff Member” and recognize hardworking BES support staff with a small gift over the
holidays;
